Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar will soon be connected be LRT, good news for Hinjewadi employees

Pune: Are you working in Hijewadi IT Park and fed up with the traffic snarls? Here’s good news for you. The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has given green signal for the light rail transport (LRT) between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi for a stretch of 21.60 kilometre, which will help in connecting industrial area of Hinjewadi with the city.

The project of LRT will be set up in collaboration of Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The project will be launched with the help of Japan International Cooperation. Earlier, the civic administration had given negative remarks on the proposal mentioning that it will be a costly project. However, after a recent Japan tour of some of the elected members, the standing committee on Tuesday gave a green signal to the project with certain conditions.

The length of the proposed LTR is 21.60 kilometre and out of this a 6.35 kilometre area of Shivajinagar to Aundh Octroi post falls under PMC limit. The railway will be partly elevated and partly along the ground. The route from Shivajinagar to E-square will be elevated and from University of Pune to PWD office in Aundh will be along the road. The project cost is estimated is Rs5.50 thousand crore.
