Despite the fact that he was working for almost three decades as a professional actor and worked with Marathi theatre, TV serials, Marathi and Hindi films and a few advertisements, Anand Abhyankar will be remembered as an ever-smiling man with a positive attitude and a gentleman. An aversion to gossip also differentiated him from the other members of the fraternity.

Anand was born on June 2, 1963, in a middle class family. His father Moreshwar was a labour welfare officer with a number of companies and mother Ashadevi was employed with Post and Telegraph department. He hailed from Nagpur where he completed his education till standard XII and came to Pune and joined Garware College of Commerce. He completed BCom and joined Bajaj Auto in the public relations department where he worked for around two years. He also was instrumental in organising plays during his stint with the company.

Being an actor and having worked for a few plays during his college days, he was an active member of Aradhana, Droppers and Naveen, the amateur theatre groups in Pune. The play, Kuryat Sada Tingalam of Rasikraj Productions, was the first big hit for Anand. He also worked with Bhakti Barve-Inamdar for Aai Retire Hotey which was a big break for him. After more than 1,000 shows of Kuryat Sada Tingalam and settling in professional life as an actor, he shifted to Mumbai instead of hopping between Pune and Mumbai.

A hard working, unassuming person, Anand was known for not attending any filmy parties and was never involved in any controversies. He never forgot birthdays of his friends and co-stars.
Anand is survived by wife Anjali, daughter Sanika and son Neeraj. Sanika after completing BA, is pursuing higher education in London, while Neeraj is studying in standard XI.

Anand acted in Marathi plays, Marathi and Hindi serials and films serials which include Kuryat Sada Tingalam, Aai Retire Hotey, Wadalwat, Asambhav, Fu Bai Fu, Avaghachi Sansar, Char Divas Sasuche, Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma, Papu Kant Dance Sala, Duniya, Matichya Chuli, etc.
