Pune ATS recovers 97kg ganja worth over Rs3.92 lakh

The state Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), Pune unit on Friday night recovered over 97kg ganja worth over Rs3.92 lakh and arrested two persons at Morwadi in Talegaon Dabhade.

The suspects were identified as Jeevan Pandurang Bhegde, 23, and Ganesh Pandit Vanzare, 22, both residents of Morgaon in Talegaon-Dabhade. They had allegedly kept the narcotic substance for selling purpose.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided Bhegde’s house and recovered five sacks containing ganja, a weighing machine and Rs400. Bhegde is into drug peddling and Vanzare is his employee. Bhegde allegedly sold ganja to drug addicts in small
packets.

The ATS has charged the suspects for committing an offence under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

On Saturday, both the suspects were produced before the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) and they have been remanded until January 11 in police custody. The prosecution contended that the custodial interrogation of the suspects is required to
find out the source from where they had brought large quantity of drugs.

Speeding bus kills man, driver arrested  
An unidentified person was killed after he was hit by a speeding Pune Municipal Parivahan Mahanagar Limited (PMPML) bus while crossing the road at Maldhakka Chowk on Friday night.

The police have arrested the PMPML bus driver identified as Raju Shankar Jadhav, 32, of Daund for rash and negligent driving and booked him under IPC 1860.

According to the police, the bus was going to Hadapsar from the municipal corporation stop.

When the bus reached the Maldhakka Chowk, Jadhav lost his control over the wheels and knocked down the person. The victim was rushed to Sassoon hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Valuables worth Rs96,300 robbed
Some unidentified persons allegedly broke into a flat and stole a laptop, silver and gold ornaments, Rs2,000 in cash and a watch worth Rs96,300. Moreover, the suspects used the electronic equipments carelessly; as a result fire broke out in the flat and burnt down cupboard, clothes and education documents, furniture, electronic equipment valued at Rs 4.50 lakh.

Bupesh Prabhakar Wankar, 30, of Tingrenagar has lodged a compliant with the Vishrantwadi police station.

According to the police, Bupesh and his wife had gone on vacation to Kashmir on December 24. On January 6, the suspects broke the lock and entered inside the home and stole valuables.

The police sub inspector AM Kadam said, “The incident came into light when the neighbours saw smoke coming out from the flat. They first called the fire brigade and  later some neighbours informed the complainant about the incident. On Saturday, Wankar and his wife came to Pune and lodged a complaint with us.”

“Bupesh is working in a well known IT company as a software engineer while his wife is an assistant manager in a private company.” Kadam added.
