Two mega malls are coming up in satellite township in early 2007.

The rat race to become Navi Mumbai’s newest mall on the block is on.

InOrbit, the giant in Malad, is launching Hyperciti the face of its 5.5 lakh sq ft mall in Vashi in March 2007. Three months later, the rest of the mall comprising of food courts, entertainment venues and retail outlets will open to the public. A kilometre away, another mall that promises to house a bowling alley, the 2.5 lakh sq ft Citi Center, is fast moulding for a mid-2007 launch.

In a city whose entertainment quotient is defined by the weekend traffic jams outside its only mall, Center One at Vashi, the speed of construction at two competing malls sites is a defining moment.

“We’ll be launching in 2007, mid-year, to be precise,” said Abhijit Bhansali, director (marketing) for the Well Wishers Group. The Group, which is also constructing Palm Beach Galleria and Dreams Mall near its main venture, has an eye on converting sector 19 D, Vashi into the Phoenix Mill zone of Navi Mumbai.

There’s plenty on offer. From regular retail outlets, eating zones to a nine-lane bowling alley, to discotheque and a multiplex, they offer you no excuse to leave the place. Bhansali though is tight-lipped on the tie-ups. “It’s too early to comment on who all will have their stores and outlets at our mall,” he said.

It’s the same stand adopted by InOrbit. Refusing to come on record, officials with the business development team and leasing department said there will be retail stores, food courts and entertainment zones, but no multiplex. “No we can’t say anything else right now,” they added.

Nonetheless, there’s plenty to say about the 75,000 sq ft spread of Hyperciti. Experimented at the Malad outlet, this hyper market, an in-house venture of the group, is “doing fabulously well,” say Inorbit officials.

Spread on four levels, the market unlike Food Bazaar will offer everything “one gets in a super supermarket”, officials promised. Food Bazaar too will open next-door to InOrbit at Raghuleela mall by 2007-end.
