NGO members at a meeting said every accident has to be investigated in a precise manner and every three months the PMPML officials should disclose to the public the details of the action taken against its employees. The NGO paid homage to the eight people, who lost their lives in road accidents involving city buses.
SNM senior member Jugal Rathi said up to 14 lakh people travel by PMPML buses daily. “The PMPML bus rides are expensive.
Although the management is increasing the fares at regular intervals, it hasn’t cared to create a proper time table of the buses for the benefit of commuters. There is no time table after 1998,” he said.
According to him, proper repair of the buses was an important issue which needed serious attention. “Repairs should be carried out in time so that the services are not hampered. Moreover, the PMPML has provided helpline numbers so that the commuters can express their grievances. So people should come forward and register their grievances,” Rathi added.
Civic activist Deepak Prabhune had demanded that the Pune Municipal Corporation allocate the Deccan Gymkhana land, used for parking of vehicles, to the PMPML for setting up a bus stand.
Independent corporator Ujjwal Kesakar said although the civic body had been assisting the transport utility, the PMPML officials were not handling the matters properly. “The PMT and the PCMT should be created once again for the benefit of the commuters,” he said.
