A 20 year-old youth lost his life after his bike dashed into a pillar on Eastern Freeway in the wee hours of Monday. As per the preliminary investigation of Wadala police, the deceased, identified as Aditya Kumar Tiwari, was a resident of Navi Mumbai.

Tiwari was riding around 3:45am in the southbound traffic on the freeway when the accident took place. The police are still investigating the why and how the accident took place.

After the incident, those travelling on the freeway immediately alerted the police control room. The Wadala police, after getting information, visited the spot and rushed Tiwari to KEM hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. According to reports, he died due to critical head injuries as well as injuries on other parts of the body.

"It seems that the accident must have occurred due to rash driving or for some other reason, like mechanical fault in the vehicle. We are also assuming that Tiwari might have lost control while driving his vehicle after which he dashed into the pillar," said an officer from Wadala police station.

"It is very unfortunate that the 20-year- old lost his life in a mishap, but as per general instructions, two-wheelers are banned on the freeway. Tiwari, however, violated this rule and rode negligently on it," said senior police inspector Parshuram Karyakarte, while speaking to dna.

Karyakarte added, "We have recorded the statement of Tiwari's family and he has been booked for rash driving and death caused by negligence under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code. As of now, our investigation is going on and we are awaiting the medical reports to ascertain whether Tiwari had consumed alcohol while driving."
