The ATS has launched a manhunt for their accomplice from West Bengal who pumped in fake notes from Bangladesh.
Nadeem Ahmed Kabir Ahmed Rangrej, 35 and Arif Ahmed Sharif Ahmed Rangrej, 35, are natives of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.
“On receipt of information that two people would be coming outside Pritam hotel in Dadar around 1.30pm, a trap was laid there. They were nabbed as soon as they arrived,” said ATS chief Rakesh Maria.
The police have seized 1,600 notes of Rs500 denomination from Nadeem and 400 notes of Rs500 denomination from Arif, he said.
The officer said that the quality of the notes is very good and can easily be mistaken for original ones. The police are now looking for their supplier from West Bengal.
“The two have told us that they got the said consignment from one person in Kaliyachak in West Bengal,” said the officer.
The duo has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and remanded in police custody till December 28 by a local court.
