Special department to monitor, evaluate city development plan

Taking into account its failure to implement the previous development plan (DP-1991) in Mumbai, the BMC has decided to set up a monitoring and evaluation team to periodically assess the draft DP (2034). Every five years, the team will keeping a tab of how much of the DP has been implemented till date. It was because of a lack of such an evaluation process that the BMC had not been able to implement most of its earlier DP.

A senior officer from the DP department said, "Many elements of the proposed in old DP were not implemented." Urban planning expert Vidyadhar Phatak said, "Timely monitoring of DP will help in making changes according to need."
