South Mumbai: Uber cabbie masturbates in front of woman during ride

Another 'driver mischief saga' has come as a shocker for taxi-booking ventures. A woman has alleged that the driver of an Uber cab she was travelling in on Wednesday night masturbated while driving the vehicle through the streets of the financial capital. The incident reportedly took place when she had booked a cab from Churchgate to Opera House.

While speaking to DNA, the victim said, "It was around 10.30 pm when I boarded the cab. I noticed that the driver was riding in the wrong direction, he was moving away from the destination. I also noticed that he was doing something inappropriate during the drive."

"When we reached the destination, I asked the driver to turn on the lights which made him nervous. All of a sudden, he started fumbling out of fear. It was then I noticed that he was trying to zip his pants. Completely disgusted, I complained on the app soon after. I even tweeted tagging Uber, but I didn't receive a response even after 12 hours of lodging the complaint," the victim added.

While hurling allegations, the victim said, "People usually opt to spend more on such services because they feel protected. But the feeling of safety is only an illusion." When asked about any plans to go for police action, the victim said that she is waiting for the cab services to revert on the situation after which she will consider going to the police.

Speaking on the matter, a spokesperson of Uber said, "What's been described is deplorable and something no one should never experience. Our community guidelines clearly reject such inappropriate behaviour. The driver partner no longer has access to the Uber app. We stand ready to assist the law enforcement authorities in their investigation."
