PIFF: 'Ha Bharat Maza' is best Marathi film

In the Marathi competition section of the 10th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF), the Government of Maharashtra Sant Tukaram best Marathi film award was presented to film Ha Bharat Maza directed by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar. The award consists of cash prize of Rs5 lakh. Film-maker Umesh Kulkarni bagged the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Marathi Mandal award for best Mararthi director (Rs25,000) for film Deool.

The award for best Marathi film actor was presented to actor Subodh Bhave for Balgandharva and Uttara Baokar for Ha Bharat Maza.

Abhiram Bhadkamkar received the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Award for best Marathi screenplay (Cash prize of Rs25,000) for Balgandharva.

While the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal award for best cinematographer was presented to Sudhakar Reddy for Deool. The special Jury award was presented to producers Vivek Wagh and Nilesh Navalakha for Shala.

The special mention jury award was given to three child artistes Anshuman Joshi for Shala, Chinmay Sant for Jana Gana Mana and Shubham More for Khali Doke Var Pay. The audience award for Marathi competition film was given to Sujay Dahake, director of film Shala.

The closing ceremony was held on Thursday at City Pride, Kothrud. Faujia Khan, minister of state for culture, Government of Maharashtra presided over the function. H.E.Cord Meier-Klodt, ambassador of Germany was the chief guest. Anand Kulkarni, principal secretary for culture, tourism and excise and Michael Flucht, director of Goethe Institute, were the guests of honour.

In the World Cinema competition, the Government of Maharashtra Prabhat best international film award (Cash prize of Rs10 lakh) was presented to German film If Not Us,Who? directed by Andres Veiel. The best international film director award in world cinema competition section was bagged by Iranian film director Asghar Farhadi for Nader and Simin: A Separation. The special jury award was presented to Russian film Sparrow directed by Yuri Shiller.

Two films made by students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) were awarded in the Whistling Woods International Student Film Competition. While Sylvester Fonseca won the best cinematography for Open Cafe v2.5 directed by Naveen Padmanabha, Nikhil Mullay has won the best sound award for Shankarnama directed by Tanushree Das and Saurabh Shankar. Renu Savant, a third year film direction course student, was honoured as the best FTII student.

Faujia Khan said, “PIFF is becoming popular day by day. Cinema has surpassed all forms of entertainment. It crosses boundaries, genders and has universal appeal. It is a medium of love and unity and provides opportunity to watch various cultures.’’
