Losing his complete vision at the tender of three did not discourage him from achieving his goals.

For Krishnakant Mane, 40, resident of Dadar, visual impairment did not stop him chasing his dreams. His never say never attitude is an example for many. He founded Digital Freedom Foundation, a not for profit organisation in 2012, and also initiated GNUKhata, an open source accounting and inventory management software which has quality features that micro, small and medium businesses can make use of at a very nominal cost. The project started in 2009, is now a successful venture and is included in commerce syllabus of Kerala state board education.
Losing his complete vision at the tender of three did not discourage him from achieving his goals. The only regret is that he was forced to take up arts, when he was keen on joining an engineering college. "I wish that every individual is digitally empowered so that there is equal opportunity for growth," he said. After completing his BA, Mane went to complete his Masters in Software Engineering from Free Technology Academy with credits from University of Catalonia, Spain. "The obstacles were obvious, the technologies like a screen reader (talking software) were not available in India and when they came they were very expensive. Awareness about the disability is biggest hurdle even today. People are surprised to see me use a computer, some even call me a superhero," he said.
