Mumbai Cops on 24/7 duty for Navratri, Bakri Eid

The Mumbai police have been a busy and dedicated lot this festival season. After a considerably peaceful Ganesh Chaturthi, they are now gearing up to ensure that there are law and order hiccups during Bakri Eid and Navratri.

Cops to give up their holidays
Large numbers of police personnel will be stationed across the city during this festival season to prevent any untoward incidents in the city. All holidays of policemen, including their weekly-offs, will be cancelled so that they are on duty 24/7.

What precautions have be taken for Bakri Eid?
A force of 600 policemen has already been deployed at the Deonar abattoir ahead of the festival. "We have erected watch towers at the abattoir and have deployed 600 policemen," said Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria. "We have also started a special helpline number which will be monitored 24 hours. There will be police at check nakas who will escort the vehicle till the abattoir so that no vehicle carrying animal illegally enters the city," he added.

What are the security plans for Navratri?
Police have also drawn an elaborate plan for the Navratri festival. All the major Navratri pandals in the city were called in for a meeting with the police officials. "We have identified the important organisers in the city and have briefed them about the security aspect during the festival. We have worked out the issue of car parking at the venues and also about posting guards and getting the area under CCTV surveillance," said Maria.

Will not allow anyone to cause disruptions: Top cop
When asked about threats from any outfit with regard to 'love jihad', the top cop said, "The Mumbai police will not allow any one to take law in their hands. If anyone tries to do so, strict action will be taken against them."
