MUMBAI: After being appointed Chairman of Mumbai Board, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) last week, Amarjeet Singh Manhas formally took charge of his new assignment on Wednesday morning.

Stating that his first priority would be to see that the city’s poor and needy get a roof over their heads at affordable prices, Manhas said, “I am aware the realty prices in the city have hit the roof but there is always scope to tend to the poor.”

“There is widespread notion that there was no transparency in Mhada offices. I am in favour of open-door policy to make the departmental working more transparent,” he
further added.

“Corruption of any sort will not be tolerated,” Manhas said while answering a pointed question that corruption was rampant at Mhada.

Welcoming Manhas’s appointed senior Congress leader Kirpashankar Singh said that it was an honour for Mhada to have a person of Manhas’s honesty and integrity as chairman of the Mumbai board.
