Notwithstanding the ongoing seat-sharing talks with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, in presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday, predicted that the saffron alliance will come back to power after the Assembly election in Maharashtra. Thackeray also conveyed to BJP that Shiv Sena sticks to its words and stays away from the vindictive politics.

Thackeray's statement at the inaugural function of Mathadi Workers' workshop in Navi Mumbai deserves importance as Sena and BJP are currently engaged in hard bargain for arriving at a seat-sharing arrangement for the state Assembly election. Even though Thackeray and Fadnavis have been reiterating that alliance will happen and win more than 220 seats in the state, the wait is getting longer for stitching the alliance.

Fadnavis also hinted that the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance government is currently in power and it will continue to be there post Assembly election. There was a renewed bonhomie between the two leaders though they refrained from divulging further details on the alliance.

Veteran Shiv Sena leader, who is associated with talks with BJP, told DNA, "Negotiations are still underway as Shiv Sena and BJP still have to resolve differences over the exchange of more than 15 seats mainly from Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Nashik. In Pune, there are eight sitting legislators of BJP and Shiv Sena wants few seats there or other districts.'' He pointed out that the BJP will finally be ready to give 130 seats to Shiv Sena.

ONGOING WAIT

  •  Thackeray’s statement deserves importance as Sena and BJP are currently engaged in hard bargain for arriving at a seat-sharing arrangement for the Assembly election
  •  Even though Uddhav and Chief Minister Fadnavis have been reiterating that alliance will happen and win more than 220 seats, the wait is getting longer for seat-sharing agreement
  •  The state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil on Tuesday had clearly said that the BJP-Sena alliance is in fine health and they would certainly win 220 seats in the ensuing Assembly poll

Another leader scoffed at media reports that Shiv Sena will get less than 120 seats saying that the party has clearly conveyed its strong opposition."Shiv Sena has already geared up preparations in all 288 seats but it may settle at 130 seats. Party chief in the presence of PM Modi on September 7 has already explained that Shiv Sena wants power for an overall development of the state and it was not greedy for it,'' he noted.

As reported by DNA on Sunday, the Sena leader hinted that the announcement on alliance will be possible on September 29, the first day of Navratri. The state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil on Tuesday had clearly said that the BJP-Sena alliance is in fine health and they would certainly win 220 seats in the ensuing Assembly poll. He further informed that the alliance talks are in the final stage and added that those who are thinking that alliance will not happen are going to be disappointed. Sena MP Sanjay Raut observed that the sharing of seats in the alliance would be tougher than India-Pak partition.

Meanwhile, state higher education minister Vinod Tawade said a BJP-led alliance government under CM Devendra Fadnavis will emerge victorious once again. "In the next one month, we will ensure the report card of our development work of the last five years reaches the people," he said.
