After the successful launch of his recent book, Discover the Diamond in You, author and management guru Arindam Chaudhuri paid a visit to the DNA office at Lower Parel on Saturday, to interact with the staff and share his theories on being a successful human being.

His latest book, a 59-minute guide to success, is a follow-up to his previous bestseller Count Your Chickens Before they Hatch. “The book has less of management talk as compared to the previous book, so that it reaches out to the masses too. In this book, I have compared human beings to diamonds because I believe that all of us are diamonds in waiting. And there are four things that make up a diamond — carat, cut, colour and clarity,” said Chaudhuri, who is also honorary dean of the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), a leading B-school in the country.

Elaborating on his theory, he further said that just as diamonds are measured by their carat value, humans can be measured by the depth in their personalities, which he said are represented by nine Ps: Passion, Positive Energy, Performance, Perseverance, Personality, People Skills, Perspective, Principles and Patriotism.

“My book shows the significance of these nine Ps and the way to nurture them to become a human diamond. The Bhagavad Gita says that the journey is more important than the end. So we need to focus on the right way to achieve success and not just measure it with our bank balance,” he said.

The noted economist also rued the nature of the current education system. “Our education system has a narrow focus and does not let the child develop individual characteristics. At our institute, we get graduates from IIT and other well known institutes but without any basic idea of their subjects, thanks to rote learning,” he said.

Chaudhuri has previously written books on leadership and motivation
including The Great Indian Dream and several articles in management journals.
