The Mumbai Parking Authority (MPA) has chalked out the plan for no more on-street parking in the city. While it has made some roads as no parking zone, there are roads where the vehicles can be parked by paying charges. The civic body had stopped on-street parking from July 7 and asked all motorists to park their vehicles only at the public parking lot (PPL).

In order to provide a smooth flow of traffic, MPA has banned parking on five main roads, including Maharshi Karve Marg, Gokhale Road, S V Road and New Link Road (western suburbs) and LBS Marg (eastern suburbs).

Around three and a half kilometres from Churchgate station to Opera House, along Maharshi Karve Marg, is no parking area. Similarly, from Portuguese Road to L J Junction, along Gokhale road in Dadar, is no parking zone.

In the western suburbs, 6 km stretch from Juhu Airport to Oshiwara river, along the S V Road, and 2 km stretch from D N Nagar Metro station to Oshiwara river, along New Link Road, are no parking zone.

In eastern suburbs, around one and a half km from Kalpataru to Nirmal Lifestyle, along LBS Road, is no parking zone.

Fine on the vehicles parked in these areas range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 for two-wheelers to heavy motor vehicle

According to the officials, there will be no parking in these roads from August 30.

Vehicles parked in these areas will face fine as per the new plan. The fine ranges from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 for two-wheelers to heavy motor vehicle. The BMC will put an extra charge on delayed fine ranging from Rs 110 to Rs 275 per days from two-wheelers to heavy vehicles.

"The decision has been taken after carrying out a survey of these roads," said an MPA official, adding that it is a pilot project and after review and suggestions from citizens, MPA will take the final call.

Shishir Joshi, founder and CEO, Project Mumbai and advisor of MPA, said that the MPA worked a lot on "on-street" parking and they have come up with the plan of no parking, pay and park zone. "The project is proposed for few wards only, and if it comes out to be a success, it will be implemented in all the wards," added Joshi.
