The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporators locked the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) general body (GB) meeting hall demanding a ‘full-time’ municipal commissioner. The members of Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined the protest on Friday.

Municipal commissioner Mahesh Zagade has gone for eight-week mid-career training to IAS Academy, Mussoorie on April 17. Zagade handed over the post to divisional commissioner Dilip Band as an additional charge.
Band has been delegated the authority to attend meetings of standing committee and GB. He in return has delegated this duty to the acting additional municipal commissioner, Naresh Zurmure, while retaining powers for policy decisions. As Band is not actively participating in the working of the PMC, the corporators are upset.
When the corporators found that Band was not present for the meeting on Friday they resorted to agitation.
As the business of house was about to start, MNS corporators gathered at the main entrance door of the meeting hall and locked it under the guidance of group leader Ravindra Dhangekar.
Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal and members of ruling NCP and Congress entered the hall by another door. Group leader of Congress and leader of opposition Aba Bagul raised the issue that acting municipal commissioner Band was not present for the meeting. NCP group leader and leader of the house Subhash Jagtap said that the business would not be allowed till Band attends the meeting.
