When Dr Priya Jangam, a Chembur resident, injured her leg a few months ago, she was advised bed rest by her orthopaedic doctor. However, on Sunday, Priya, along with her two sisters, was raring to go at the Stayfree Women For Change DNA I CAN Women’s Marathon, just about a fortnight after sweating it out at another marathon in Chembur. “For me taking parts in such events has become a passion,” she said.

Priya participated in the five-kilometre fun run. Before taking her place on the guard she said, “I couldn’t have missed this great cause because of my injury. So I decided to walk for five minutes, then rest for some time, and then continue again.”

While one of Priya’s sisters, Madhuri, participated in the 21km half marathon, her other sister Asha opted for the fun run to accompany Priya.

Priya, not only participated but was also seen encouraging her sisters and other participants to run those few remaining metres to complete the race.

“Completing the marathon is more important. Winning is like the icing on the cake,” she smiled.
