A daughter binds a family together, and thus, it goes without saying, that she is an important member of the clan. While every country has a different day to make her feel special and empowered, Daughter's Day in India falls in the fourth (last) week of September. This year (2020) it happens to be on September 27.

History:

Patriarchy ruled around the world for a long time. The change in thought process and accepting women as equal to men, has come forth only recently. Daughter's Day is a reminder to treat sons and daughters alike. The day is dedicated to a 'girl child' for giving out one message loud and clear - that girls are not inferior to boys.

Why is it celebrated?

Daughter's Day is celebrated for the very same reason - to remind people around the world that a girl child is not inferior to a boy child. The day is also celebrated to raise awareness about acceptance of a girl child and end the stigma which came with patriarchy.

Importance:

The day is a reminder for people obsessed with boy child, that daughters are just as great. In fact, the daughters could end up making a parent smile more than boys at times.

Facts:

Daughter's Day is a reminder that a woman manages things better than a man. She can multi-task, manage the office and home at the same time. Women across the world have proven that they could single-handedly bring in a much-needed change.

How can you celebrate:

Daughters would usually enjoy home-cooked food, watching a movie and a few words of encouragement, to make the world a little less bitter. Shopping could also be a good option, but since 2020 has a pandemic (COVID-19) with it, the option is not a viable one. However, the most important thing for a daughter is your time - so go embrace it all!
