Growing infighting within the Jaipur Congress has put a brake on the Mera Booth Mera Gaurav (MBMG), the mass contract programme inducted by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, in Jaipur.

The state Congress had mandated to hold this programme Assembly-wise in 200 constituencies. In past two months, a dozens constituencies have been covered, which saw the participation of senior leaders including PCC chief Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan incharge and AICC general secretary Avinash Pandey and former CM Ashok Gehlot who too joined, though a bit late.

In Jaipur the party had to conduct MBMG programme in eight Assembly constituencies which seems to be not happening. According to sources, the senior leaders within the party are now considering to hold a single rally under the programme as they fear that a few leaders may spoil the programme as their differences might come to the fore. The senior party leaders have proposed to hold a big rally instead of going in each Assembly constituency as it will be better to keep the unity intact and also deter any infighting. The party which faced egg on face after the recent Shahpura episode wherein party leaders fought in front of AICC general secretary Avinash Pandey, prefers to keep it low this time in the state capital.

It has thus finalised just two programmes in Vidhyadhar Nagar and Sanganer constituencies while the remaining were put on hold. Indeed the party is deciding to hold a mass rally under the programme ahead of prime minister Narendra Modi’s proposed July 7 visit to Jaipur.

“We have finalised MBMG in Vidhyadhar Nagar on July 1 and Sanganer on July 2 and have also decided to hold a mass rally under the programme pre or post PM’s visit. There is no infighting within the party,” said Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, the Jaipur District Congress president.
