Traveling across the state as part of the Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra, chief minister Vasundhara Raje loses no opportunity and spares no effort to elucidate the list of developments works done during her current tenure. An innovative method was adopted by Raje and the highly verbose legislator, Madan Rathore in his constituency Sumerpur, during a public rally.

After inaugurating and dedicating to public development works worth Rs 18 crore, Raje asked the public that she had been hearing that the MLA was not accepting garlands for last some time as he had vowed that he would not wear a garland till water supply could be ensured to Jawai Dam.

“Let me tell your MLA that his demand is fulfilled. A 6,000 crore project will be completed in 2 phases for filling up Jawai Dam. Wapcos has been told to prepare a DPR and it will be done by September. The surplus water of Sabarmati and Sahi will be diverted to Jawai Dam,” said Raje to a cheering crowd.

She then in a playful mockingly manner said to Rathore, “Come stand here near me and answer my questions.” Raje then went on to ask a volley of questions to Rathore about the works done in his area about electricity, grid stations, drinking water schemes, roads, water supply, hospitals, medical college, infrastructure for schools schools upgradation et al. And the legislator went on to answer in affermative that the work had been done. All these works have been completed by your blessings,” said Rathore. “Then what more do you want?” said Raje in mock horror. She promptly called for a garland and got a party functionary to garland Rathore. A bashful Rathore accepted it amid loud cheering by the crowd. Looking towards the public, refering to Rathore’s short height she said, “I did not know such a small MLA could get so many works done.”

That it was stage managed performance was obvious, as a karykarta walked in before cue with the garland for Sumerpur MLA and was shooed away by Raje. But the audience thoroughly enjoyed the scene that was being played out before them. As for Raje, she managed to get across the development message that she had set out to.
