A woman and her boyfriend allegedly kept the former’s 72-year-old mother captive for two years to seize her property.

Neelam Rani, 55, who is a widow, first shifted to her mother Santosh’s West Delhi home. She and her boyfriend then took her to Batinda where she was kept captive and sometimes beaten up. She was not allowed to make calls.

All this was allegedly done to force her to sign on papers of her West Delhi property, worth crores. But Santosh fell ill and was brought back to Delhi where she managed to contact her son Shimender Pal. Surprisingly, Shimender never found it unusual that his mother had not contacted him all these days. “I thought she was in safe hands,” he said.

Santosh told the police that her daughter, started living with her in Paschim Vihar three years ago. “Neelam then brought her friend Rajiv Kumar from Batinda, who, too, started living with us ,” she said. “I want action against my daughter and her boyfriend for seizing my property in Delhi and Batinda,” Santosh said.

Shimender alleged that the police were reluctant to lodge a complaint. “We approached the senior citizen’s cell but to no avail,” he said.

“This is a family dispute How can a woman kidnap her mother? We can’t register  a complaint on the basis of an allegation,” a senior police officer said.
