There is no vacancy for the post of the prime minister in 2019, so the Opposition should stop and start preparing for it in 2014, said Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan during his speech in the Lok Sabha as part of the no-confidence motion.
Rewinding to the past, Paswan asked the Opposition if they had their unity intact on all counts. He spoke of Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s proposal to pass the women’s reservation Bill and inquired whether Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh is on board.
“In this very house, when Deve Gowda ji was the prime minister, and I was the leader of the House, there was a furore in the house over the Bill and I went to him. He promised me that it will be done and delayed the debate in the House by half an hour under the pretext of electronic voting machine and in those few minutes, the tables were turned,” he said, adding that after the break, demands for reservation of various communities surfaced.
He also spoke of Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati’s lack of support.
Praising the NDA government for “working according to the Constitution”, he said the Congress needs to understand why it remains in power in very few states.
He said the Centre will bring an ordinance if the Supreme Court delivers an adverse verdict on a review petition filed against its order diluting the provisions of the SC/ST Act.
