West Bengal Congress chief Somen Mitra breathed his last on Thursday morning.

He was 78 years old. Mitra leaves behind his wife and son.

Devastated by Mitra's loss, West Bengal Youth Congress tweeted, "WBPCC President Somen Mitra has breathed his last, a short while ago. As we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, all our prayers and thoughts are with Dada's family. May his soul rest in peace."

He was reportedly admitted to the hospital earlier this month with kidney and heart ailments. He died in the hospital due to cardiac arrest.

It is also reported that his samples had tested negative for COVID-19.

His family members are yet to issue an official statemnt about his death.

he veteran Congress leader served as an MLA from Sealdah in Bengal's Chowringhee district from 1972-2006.
