Bars not safe for women during night time because people are drunk: WB Women Commission Chair

Sunanda Mukherjee said that people in night clubs were drunk and sometimes even security is not enough for women's safety.

Expressing grave concern over the incident where a woman who was allegedly molested by a group of drunken men on Sunday night in a bar situated in Kolkata's Park Street, West Bengal Women Commission, Chairperson, Sunanda Mukherjee on Tuesday asserted that it is fortunate that she was with her husband and nothing grave happened to her.

'Bars are not safe during night time for women as people around there are not stable because all are drunk. Despite having security it is not enough for women's safety. Regards this woman, who was molested on Sunday it is fortunate that she was with her husband and nothing grave happened to her,' said Mukherjee.

Meanwhile, Women rights activist, Ruby Mukherjee also had similar views stating that police has lodged a complaint but no arrest has been made yet, quick action should be taken.

'It was a birthday party on Sunday where the woman and her husband were invited. But the drunken men were not, when the lady took offence she was pushed while her husband beaten. This is a sad incident to be thought off. Police has lodged a complaint but no arrest has been made yet,' said Ruby Mukherjee.

Earlier this day, the victim has demanded justice in this matter. She has already filed an FIR in the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station.

The statement of the women has been recorded and a probe is currently going on in this regard.

While narrating the whole incident, the victim has also claimed that she can identify one of the men who molested her.
