Watch: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar rides a bicycle to polling booth

The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, on Monday, rode a bicycle to a polling booth in Karnal to cast his vote for the Haryana Assembly Elections 2019 which are currently underway in the state across its 90 Assembly constituencies.

News agency ANI posted a video of Chief Minister ML Khattar on his way to the polling booth.

CM Khattar won his maiden election in the 2014 state Assembly polls by a huge margin of 63,736 votes. He was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Haryana following that. This year, he is contesting the Karnal constituency once again.

There are over 1.83 crore voters in Haryana of which 83 lakh are women. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up 19,578 polling stations, 13,837 of which are in rural areas. There 1,169 candidates, including 105 women, in the fray for 90 assembly seats.

Heavy security force has been deployed in the assembly election. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh Virk said 130 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed besides neatly 27,000 state police personnel. 

26,896 state police personnel, 22,806 home guards, 7,936 special police officers and 6,001 police trainees are on poll duty, he said.

In the last polls held in 2014, the BJP had won 47 seats and added one more seat after winning Jind by-poll earlier this year. The INLD had won 19 seats in the assembly while the Congress had 15 legislators.

The BSP and the SAD had bagged one seat each while five Independents were also victorious.
