Elephants in the forests of Garo Hill region do not understand the boundary between the two countries and often cross from one side to another. While the forest which extends both in Indian and Bangladeshi territory, it has a huge number of tuskers.

In these deep woods, the BSF keeps guard on the Indian side for any uninvited guests. As perennial as the rains of Cherrapunji of Meghalaya, the BSF domination is also continuous and perennial (24*7*365) all along the border. Nothing escapes from the eyes and ears of an alert bordermen.

However, the mammoths have no regard for either the border or gun-totting border guards.

In a video accessed by Zee News, it can be seen how elephants break the barbed wire boundary to cross into Indian territory. The BSF jawan watching the horde warns on the wireless that "mama nikal rahe hain." The elephants are revered in this region and are respectfully called "Mama".

These border guards give free access to the herd of elephants which roam freely in these jungles. On their marked route, gates are manned but always kept in position to give these elephants free access across fence through the gate.

It is common in this region to find elephant parade, people show their respect to them and no harm is caused by these mighty pachyderms.
