TRP Scam: BARC expresses disappointment over misrepresentation of communication by Republic TV

The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), a body that monitors ratings of private news channels is disappointment over the leak of private communication by the media house Republic Network. The BARC clarified it had responded to the network in private communication, which was leaked

"BARC has not commented on the ongoing investigation and it is providing necessary assistance to the law enforcement agency. BARC India is highly disappointed with the actions of the Republic Network by disclosing private and confidential communications and misrepresenting the same," said BARC in a statement.

The statement further read, "BARC India reiterates that it has not commented on the ongoing investigation and without prejudice to BARC India’s rights, it expresses its dismay at the actions of the Republic Network," it added. 

Earlier today, the TV network claimed that the BARC has confirmed that there was never a case against Republic Network and there was no malpractice of any kind.

The media group also released an alleged email sent by BARC which said Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh's remarks about Republic TV fudging TRPS was a lie.

The BARC also said that it has full faith in the Mumbai Police and does not want to make any comment on the investigation. It reiterated support to the law enforcement agencies in the TRP scam investigation.

Earlier on October 15, BARC had announced a temporary suspension of weekly ratings of news channels in the wake of the fake Television Rating Points (TRP) scam.
