A family in Andhra Pradesh's Tenali has set a great example by spending a huge amount of money to feed lakhs of people during the nationwide lockdown imposed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sri Chandrasekhara Guru Paduka Peetum and Sri Ramayana Navahnika Yagna have spent a whopping amount of Rs 2 crore in just 120 days by feeding the poor who couldn't feed themselves during the lockdown.

To help and serve the poor, Vishnubhatla Aanjaneya Chayanulu established this trust 27 years ago.

As per a report in The New Indian Express, the family's sole objective was to feed all those who could not feed themselves during the lockdown. The younger son, Vishnubhatla Yagna Narayan Avadhani, said that the family initially produced 50 kilograms of food and distributed it in a slum.

He said, "we were aren’t satisfied with this as the food wasn’t sufficient for all the families in that street. So, my brother and I went around the town and identified some 15 areas where nearly 6,000 people lost their livelihood due to the pandemic and suffering from hunger pangs."

He added that they came across some local chefs who lost work due to the lockdown and were willing to work. "We engaged them and paid salaries, which was like a lifeline to them. We started distributing food in all 15 localities we had identified from March 26,” he told the newspaper.

He further stated that after noticing the charity work on social media, film director Harish Shankar and local politicians chipped in. Soon many people across the country came forward to donate for the cause and the food distribution continued for 120 days with the assistance.

In 120 days, the family spent Rs 2 crore to feed 6 lakh people during the lockdown. We are proud to help others, the family says.
