Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took the BJP's 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign to the next phase, launching an interactive video conference. The Prime Minister's address from Delhi's Talkatora stadium was broadcast to 500 locations across the country.
BJP workers posed questions on a variety of topics, and several venues resonated with chants by supporters. Modi also attacked the Opposition on various issues, like Balakot airstrikes, bank loan fraud, poverty alleviation, Mission Shakti, etc.
Asked why the government conducted airstrikes on terror camps in Balakot last month, he said, "We have been suffering from terrorism for 40 years. We know who is responsible for it. Till when will this continue? That's when I decided, 'Yeh jahan se control hota hai, khel wahin khela jaayega.'"
He added that the airstrikes have put Pakistan in a dilemma. "If they say something happened in Balakot, they'll have to accept that there were terrorist camps operating there. They used to pretend like there was nothing, but they can't hide anymore," he said.
While explaining why Mission Shakti was important, he also reiterated that the announcement's timing had nothing to do with the upcoming election, that the decision was taken only in the interests of the nation. "But if some people lose their sleep over an achievement they should be proud of, what can I do?" he asked, a jibe at Opposition parties who said the announcement was made with political ends in mind.
Responding to a question on his government's efforts to bring back fraudsters who have sought sanctuary abroad, PM Modi said, "I will not let anybody paw at your money under my guard. It's my responsibility as Chowkidar to make sure the nation's wealth is safe."
While PM Modi was addressing from the stadium in the National Capital, other leaders of the BJP, including Ram Lal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Manoj Tiwari and Meenakshi Lekhi were also present at the venue. Meanwhile, party president Amit Shah, Harsh Vardhan and Shyam Jaju were at a different venue in North Delhi. Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj was at Shivaji College in West Delhi, while Home Minister Rajnath Singh was in Pandav Nagar in East Delhi.
