Karnataka is seeing a fresh surge of COVID-19 cases as 1,715 new infections were registered on Sunday. Some 1,039 or 60% of the new cases were from Bengaluru city. However, there will be no lockdown in the state as of now.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar has clarified that another lockdown is not being considered as an option right now. "Semi-lockdown or lockdown is not considered for now. We need to learn from past mistakes," he said yesterday while speaking to reporters.
Bengaluru Municipal Commissioner N Manjunath Prasada had earlier hinted at reimposing restrictions, saying that a partial lockdown may be imposed in the city if people don't follow COVID-19 norms.
Last week, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa held a meeting with senior officials and members of the COVID-19 technical advisory committee, comprising health experts. CM Yediyurappa urged people to cooperate if they don't want another lockdown.
"I appeal to the people of the state, especially Bengaluru, if you don't want lockdown once again, take strict measures by yourselves."

Karnataka government has made negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test report mandatory for people arriving in the state from Punjab and Chandigarh. Earlier, it was compulsory only for people entering from Maharashtra and Kerala.
The decision to extend the same to three states comes following the recommendations of the COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee.

Union Health Ministry said that Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu accounted for 80.90% of new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
India reported 40,715 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the overall case tally to 1,16,86,796 according to data from the Health Ministry.
26,645 of the newly recorded cases were from Maharashtra. With 199 deaths in the last 24 hours, the overall death toll rose to 1,60,166.
There are as many as 3,45,377 active cases in the country at present while 1,11,81,253 people have recovered from the disease.
