With the campaigning for the December 7 Assembly polls in Rajasthan and Telangana coming to an end on Wednesday, political attacks reached fever pitch on Tuesday.

Addressing a rally in Hanumangarh of Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Kartarpur went to Pakistan 70 years ago due to lack of vision and sensitivity of the then Congress leaders.

The foundation stone for the much-awaited corridor linking Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur – the final resting place of Sikh faith's founder Guru Nanak Dev – to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India's Gurdaspur district was laid last week.

"The credit for the Kartarpur corridor goes to your vote. Correcting Congress mistakes was my destiny," he said at the rally. The headlines five years ago were about corruption and scams, he said. "Have you seen any news of this kind in the last five years?" The PM said the Congress had promised to waive farm loans worth Rs 6 lakh crore, but could clear only Rs 58,000 crore. Central ministers like Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari also toured the state.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who in Alwar's Malakhera village, turned the heat by repeatedly using 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' to attack the BJP. "The Prime Minister says 'Bharat Mata Ki jai' in every speech, but works for Anil Ambani. He should begin his address by saying 'Anil Ambani Ki Jai', 'Mehul Choksi Ki Jai', 'Nirav Modi Ki Jai' 'Lalit Modi Ki Jai'."

He continued his attack. "Out of 45,000 crore, 16,000 crore rupees are given to all the elite people of India," he said, "The hard earned money of farmers is given to the rich through Bima Yojana. This is not Bima Yojana. This should be called Anil Yojana, Nirav Modi Yojana, Vijay Mallya Yojana."

The Bharat Mata jibe was promptly responded by PM Modi in Sikar who said Gandhi showed "disrespect for our motherland". He said, "The Congress has come up with a 'fatwa' that I should not begin rallies with "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". How can they deny me this? They must be ashamed of even saying such a thing," Modi said.

He again hit back at Congress in Jaipur saying, "We will bring back those who have fled the country with public money. It has been a long loop of corruption following which the loans were issued to such people and the benefits drawn upon for the favour."

Telangana too witnessed a high-voltage campaigning as parties deployed their top leaders to woo voters. BJP packed off Smriti Irani, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Maharashtra CM Devender Fadnavis to the southern state. TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao addressed several rallies including one at Kodangal, where the Congress candidate and the party's state working president Revanth Reddy were taken into preventive custody for allegedly trying to provoke people.
