Militants kill 3 policemen after abducting them from Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian

At least three Special Police Officers (SPOs) and one police personnel have gone missing in South Kashmir's Shopian.

The militants on Friday killed three policemen after abducting them from Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

The policemen and a civilian were abducted nearly three weeks after terrorists had abducted relatives of policemen from various places in south Kashmir on August 30. The relatives were later released.

Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo had purportedly claimed responsibility for the abductions in a 12-minute video, issuing a three-day deadline for the release of all relatives of terrorists who were in police custody.

Those abducted and killed have been identified as Firdous Ahmad Kuchey and Kuldeep Singh – both residents of Batgund Shopian, and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, residents of Kapran. However, the civilian identified as Nisar Ahmad Dhobi was released.

On Thursday, a terrorist was gunned down by the security forces after an encounter broke out in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorist was killed after a long gunfight which broke out in the forest area of Sumlar in Bandipora on Thursday afternoon.

In July, a police constable was abducted and killed in the Valley. Body of policeman Javid Ahmad Dar was found by the locals in Kulgam's Pariwan area.

Earlier, Aurangzeb's family had made an emotional appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir government to eliminate militancy from the state and avenge his death.
