To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, the Delhi Traffic Police today announced a warning for the full preparations of the Independence Day event that will take place today. Eight roads, including Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S.P. Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover, will be off-limits to the general public on Sunday from 4 am to 11 am, as per the advisory.

Routes to avoid

A point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J L Nehru Marg, the Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and the Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass should be avoided by vehicles without parking labels for the practise; in accordance to the guidance.

Routes to take

Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road are some alternate routes that commuters can use to get from north to south Delhi and vice versa.

Vehicle traffic will use the NH-24, Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road (under the AIIMS Flyover), Ring Road, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviraj Road, Safdarjung Road, etc. as alternative routes in the east-west corridor, according to the statement, which also noted that the Old Iron bridge and Geeta Colony bridge towards Shanti Van will be shut down.

From August 12 at midnight to August 13 at eleven in the morning, activity of goods vehicles between the Nizamuddin and Wazirabad bridges will be forbidden. During this time, interstate transportation will also not be permitted between Sarai Kale Khan ISBT and Maharana Pratap ISBT, according to the advisory.

Between August 12 at midnight and August 13 at 11 a.m., as well as between ISBT and NH-24 (NH-9)/NH T-point on Ring Road, city buses—including those run by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC)—will not operate. Instead, they will travel on alternate routes. It stated that these buses may travel on NH-24, G T Road, and Wazirabad Road.

Bus routes that end at the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and the main railway station in Delhi will be shortened or changed. There will still be alternate routes available to the nearby hospitals, bus stops, and train stations where the Independence Day event will be held.
