Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) Chairman Dr Subhash Chandra, who has been associated with a number of philanthropic activities, said on Wednesday he will support the candidate fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Hisar for the upcoming state Assembly elections.

Addressing the media, Chandra said, "I will be supporting any candidate to whom the party will give the ticket. If I had asked, I would have got ticket to contest election from Hissar. I have been associated with Hissar for a long time and therefore, even without being an MP or MLA I will continue working for the people."

Terming unemployment the major problem in Hissar, Chandra said, "We have started work for employment generation. I don't say that I will be starting a company, but we will see that jobs are being generated and people are getting employment."

Making it clear that he has no aspirations to become chief minister, Chandra said, "I never had a dream of becoming the chief minister, and even now I don't have anything in mind. I can't devote the required time, rather I don't have time to think of it."

Chandra further said, "I have a relation with the BJP over last the two decades. But if any media person becomes an active member of the party, people will not trust them."

When asked whether he would do a road show in Hissar, he said, "If BJP leader Dr Kamal Gupta wants, I will do it."

Chandra has single-handedly created the Essel Group, which has interests in media and entertainment, packaging, infrastructure, education, precious metals and technology sectors.

Bowing to the wishes of the people of Haryana, and of Hissar in particular, Chandra had earlier announced that he may contest the upcoming assembly polls in the state.
