AHMEDABAD: The Multiplex Association of Gujarat has decided not to screen Aamir Khan's forthcoming film `Fanaa' fearing attacks on cinema halls after the actor had supported NBA leader Medha Patkar on Sardar Sarovar dam issue.

"Multiplexes across Gujarat will not screen `Fanaa' which will hit theatres this Friday," Manubhai S Pate l, the President of Multiplex Association of Gujarat said.

The decision of the association comes after violent protests were witnessed in different cities of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad and Vadodara, after Aamir had made certain remarks against Gujarat government and Chief Minister Narendra Modi a few weeks back.

"This decision has been taken after 22 members of our association consisting of representatives from different multiplexes met two days back and arrived at a consensus on the matter," Patel added.

Patel, who is also the chairman of city-based multiplex Wide Angle, said some of the multiplexes in Gujarat had to stop the screening of `Rang De Basanti' mid-way after agitation against the actor over his remarks in connection with the Narmada dam intensified.

"We do not want the property of multiplexes to be damaged nor do we want movie-buffs coming to see other movies to be harassed in any manner," Patel said.

He, however, said that there was no political interference in the decision.
