Rishikesh Devdiker, the key accused in the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, was on Monday sent for 15-day police custody by a Karnataka court.

The police had presented the accused before the court today, news agencies had reported. Devdiker (44) was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on January 9 from the Katras area of Jharkhand's Dhanbad district, where he was hiding inside a house.

Senior journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh was murdered at her residence in Bengaluru in September, 2017, by unknown assailants. She was a known critic of right-wing Hindu extremism and campaigns for women's rights and against caste-based discrimination.
