Eight civilians injured in Pak shelling

Official figures reveal there were 285 violations recorded this year by the Pakistani Army till August 1 this year

Pakistan army upped the ante on the eve of Diwali as they resorted to heavy shelling on Indian forward positions and civilians areas. The shelling has left more than eight people, including a two-year-old girl, injured along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch sectors on Wednesday.

Police said Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked heavy firing and shelling on Wednesday morning starting with Manjakote sector in Rajouri, which left three villagers injured.

"Three civilians: Liaquat Hussain (24), his daughter Insha (2), and Mohommad Zaffar received injuries and were shifted to Army dispensary," a police spokesman said.

Later Pakistan opened fire in Balakote Sector injuring 27-year-old Ayaz Ahmed. Three private vehicles were also damaged. After a brief interval, the Pakistani army again shelled the civilian areas injuring four more people in Balkote sector.

"Border firing stopped in District Rajouri at 10am, but continued in Poonch," the police spokesman said.

The ceasefire violations comes six days after Pakistan army fired indiscriminately on Indian forward positions killing an army jawan and a civilian porter besides injuring five others in the Kirshna Ghati sector of Poonch district in Jammu division.

The fresh firing comes 16 days after Pakistan Army pounded the civilian areas on the Line of Control (LoC) leaving two civilians including a 10 year old boy dead and 12 others injured, four of them critically, in Poonch district of Jammu division.

Official figures reveal there were 285 violations recorded this year by the Pakistani Army till August 1 this year. Around 228 such incidents of cease fire violations were reported along the LoC in 2016. Last year 221 incidents of ceasefire violations were also reported from the International border. This year till June 30 there were 23 ceasefire violations on International Border.

Official figures reveal in 2015 around 405 incidents of cross border firing have taken place along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir. Of which 253 incidents of cross border firing have taken place along the International Border and 152 incidents along the Line of Control.
