Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday inaugurated the country's first 'Plasma Bank' via videoconference in an effort to cure COVID-19 patients. He pleaded recovered COVID-19 patients aged between 18 and 60, with no comorbidities to to donate plasma.
An interested person can call at 1031 or contact through WhatsApp at 8800007722 to donate plasma.
"If you are eligible & willing to donate plasma, then you may call us at 1031 or you can WhatsApp us at 8800007722. Our doctors will then get in touch with you to further confirm your eligibility," Kejriwal said.
"If you have recovered from #COVID19 & your age is between 18 and 60 & your weight is above 50 kg, then you may donate plasma for #COVID19 patients. However, women who have given birth or the persons with comorbidities, are not eligible to donate plasma," he added.
The 'Plasma Bank'is being set up at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Delhi.
The Delhi Chief Minister said that the Delhi government has decided to set up the plasma bank since the first plasma therapy trials were conducted in the national capital and the results proved to be promising.
Notably, this will be the first plasma bank in the country. Kejriwal said that of the 35 COVID-19 patients who were given plasma at the LNJP hospital over the past few days, 34 survived.
"I appeal to COVID-19 recovered patients to donate their plasma because you are getting a chance to save other people's lives," said the Delhi Chief Minister.
Finally, Kejriwal urged the news media to also drive campaigns to motivate more people to donate plasma to save the lives of others.
