After a video surfaced where Congress leader Randeep Surjewala was seen saying, “Brahmin DNA is in Congress’s blood”, speculations have risen on whether the Congress is playing the Brahmin card before 2019 election.

Party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, however, said that the party stands for inclusivity of all communities. He said that the event in Haryana was taken out of context, and that the Brahmin community is facing a lot of problems in the state, adding that the Congress has held such events for OBCs as well.

“The Congress stands clear on the issue. We believe that every section of the community has the right to express their problems. This question is not simply limited to the Savarna community, the problem affects our SC and ST brothers and sisters as well. There’s a huge amount of anger in the country and people are feeling let down by the government,” said Singhvi.
