Committee looking into Apollo death submits findings

The three-member committee set up to fix accountability in the death of a patient at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in the city today submitted its findings to the health department.

Health services director Biswaranjan Satpathy confirmed the submission of the report to health secretary Rajendra Shukla, but refused to disclose the contents.

The report is, however, yet to be submitted to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also the health minister, a source in the CMO said.

Later in the evening, the chief minister said that the police as well as the committee were simultaneously conducting the probe into the incident.

"They will submit a consolidated report once they are done with it. The police and the committee are looking into it... let them work freely," Banerjee said.

The inquiry committee, set up by the state government, had found medical negligence, delay in release and tampering of documents as reasons for the death of 30-year-old Sanjoy Roy.

The death of the patient had led to an outcry and eventual setting up of a medical council by the state government to monitor functioning of private hospitals.
