Ahmedabad police's wait for gambling king alias Kalgi ends

The Ahmedabad police’s long wait for gambling king Dinesh Thakkar alias Kalgi ended on Saturday, when he made an appearance before the Sola police. He was interrogated by police officials and a fresh case has been filed against him.
Kalgi was lodged in the Sola police station till late Saturday evening and may be produced before the sub-divisional magistrate on Sunday.

Kalgi was interrogated by joint commissioner of police, Satish Sharma, deputy commissioner of police, Brajesh Jha as well as police inspector of Sola police station KD Bhatt.

Talking to DNA, Sharma said that Kalgi was interrogated but no shocking revelations were made during the same. Kalgi appeared before the Sola police at 11 am and was then questioned. Talking to reporters, Bhatt said that the police questioned him in connection with the raid conducted by the JCP and DCP on a gambling den in the Sola police station jurisdiction.

Police had been on the lookout for Kalgi in connection with the raid, where police had seized cash and vehicles worth Rs1 crore from a gambling den in a farm house allegedly operated by him.

“He was questioned by all the concerned officers for a few hours,” Bhatt said.  Jha, interrogated Kalgi for almost two hours, but according to sources, he did not reveal anything. “He will be produced before the sub-divisional magistrate on Sunday and may be released on a solvency bail of Rs25 lakh,” a police source said.

Kalgi had secured his bail in the case filed against him. By the time the police came to know of his bail, it was too late. The police had then made an application in the court urging the magistrate to seek his custody to conclude the investigations.
