AgustaWestland scam accused Christian Michel James alleged that former Special CBI Director Rakesh Asthana had threatened him in Dubai that he will "make my life hell" if he did not do the investigative agency's bidding. The foreign national did not hasten to add that the CBI officer "succeeded in doing so".

James made these allegations in the Special CBI court during proceedings after his counsel had moved an application for a shift in the jail as his "freedom was being curtailed".

Michel said, "Few days ago, 17 Kahsmiri separatist leaders were moved in the same cell where I am lodged. I am the only non-Muslim. My neighbour is gangster Chota Rajan. In the last four days, I have met 27 murderers... one person had committed nine murders."

Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar directed the jail authorities to produce jail records in respect of the accused as well as the CCTV footage of the last five days. The matter will be taken up on March 14.

During the proceedings, Deputy Jail Superintendent Prashant Kumar Verma (legal) told the court that Michel was kept in ward number 6 of Jail number-1 for security reasons as there were apprehensions with regard to his security. Verma also told the court that all the facilities given to other co-prisoners were also given to Michel, including routine facilities like access to canteen, medical facilities, and the library, according to requirements and jail rules.

The counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said that Michel is trying to hamper investigations and his counsel is making false and frivolous allegations.

Meanwhile, the court allowed the probing agency to interrogate Michel in the jail premises for a period of two hours twice a day. His counsel will be allowed to be present for a period of half-an-hour during each interrogation. The ED had earlier moved an application to interrogate Michel as they had got some new documents which they wanted to confront him with.

Michel also added that so far, he has completed 600 hours of interrogation in 29 days.
