8 Delhi Fire Service personnel get gallantry award

Four personnel of the Delhi Fire Service, who died during rescue operations, were among the eight awarded gallantry medals today.

On the eve of Independence Day, President Ram Nath Kovind approved a total of 12 awards for fire fighters of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

"Delhi Fire Service is awarded 8 Gallantry awards & 4 distinguished service awards by President. We are proud of Delhi Fire Service(sic)," Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain tweeted.

The four fire fighters -- Sunil Kumar, Manjeet Singh, Hari Singh Meena and Hari Om -- have been given the President's Fire Service Medal for gallantry (posthumous).

Meena and Hari Om died when they were trapped in a fire caused by an explosion of LPG cylinder in West Delhi's Vikaspuri area in February this year.

Kumar and Singh died while fighting fire at a plastic factory in Outer Delhi's Narela area.

Among the four others who were given fire service medal for gallantry were Anoop Singh, Tej Pal, Naveen and Revinder Kumar.

Besides, Vipin Kental has been awarded for distinguished service and Rajbir Singh, Harish Chand and Rajesh Kumar for meritorious service.
