Walking on the footsteps of Madras High Court, Directorate of Education (DoE) has prohibited all schools in the national capital not to give any homework to class I and II students.

According to a report in Jagran Josh, a circular issued by the DoE on September 14 said: “The heads of government, government- aided, recognised unaided schools are hereby directed to ensure that no homework is prescribed to students of Classes I and II. Non-compliance will be viewed seriously.”

It had also directed schools not to use textbooks that are not in line with the syllabus prescribed by the NCERT.

The court’s direction came on a plea by M Purushothaman, seeking a direction to the CBSE to strictly adhere to the syllabus prescribed by the NCERT.

Justice Kirubakaran had passed an interim order and said the use of NCERT books be made mandatory. In the same hearing, the board informed the court that it would implement the court's order of no homework.

Few days back, the Madras High Court in an interim order on May 29 asked CBSE to ensure kids studying in classes I and II in schools affiliated to it must not get any homework.
