Just when you've established a regular exercise routine, monsoon comes along and replaces thoughts of staying healthy and achieving that bikini body with dreamy thoughts of rainy day comfort food.  Now instead of breaking a sweat at the gym, all you want to do is cozy up and drink hot chai.

We may not all enjoy running in the rain or arriving to a fitness class drenched from the rain, but staying active during the season is important and the easiest way to do that is to try some indoor exercises. This way you will still manage to get a good workout by following a more monsoon-friendly fitness routine.

Power yoga instructor and fitness trainer, Bharat A Raikar recommends some exercises that you can do without having to leave your home. 45 minutes he told dna is all you need for these five workouts daily, to achieve the same results at the gym.

So fret not and get started!

1) Step-ups

All you need for a good cardio workout at home is some stairs. If there are no stairs in or near where you live, use a small bench or stool instead. March in place with some vigour or up the intensity by running in place doing the high knee run. This advanced variation not only gives you a great cardio workout but also works the abs.

2) Burpees

Also known as the squat thrust, burpees will help you build your strength and get rid of that extra belly fat. It is a really simple exercise that works your arms, chest, quads, hamstrings and abs. Burpees are a great way to increase the intensity of any workout and should be performed with 15 repetitions  to achieve good results.

3) Squats

Squats work your whole body and do wonders for your muscles. Raikar recommends doing squats for one minute every workout to increase fitness and build strength.

4) Walking lunges

Your dream of having toned legs can still be realised during the monsoon with this simple exercise. Performing walking lunges can improve the way your legs look and gain lower body strength. Raikar recommends 20  repetitions to yield results. Add weights (if available) to increase the intensity of the exercise.

5) Push ups

Push ups are a common strength training exercise and for good reason, as it is more effective than exercises done on fancy equipment at the gym. They help to strengthen the back, abs, legs and improve overall fitness and strength. Raikar suggests adding 20 pushups to your daily exercise routine for a great workout.
