A number of teenagers aspire to become K-pop idols but only a few of them are able to succeed. BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a well-known band that won hearts with its performances all over the world. But, do you know that the band initially consisted of 8 trainees who practiced together before making their official debut, however, one of them, Kim Ji-hun was cut by the management right before the debut.

Kim Ji-hun was scouted by a K-pop recruiter and was asked to audition. At the age of 18, he grabbed the opportunity and went on to become a trainee with seven other boys. He had a talent for breakdancing and even trained for their debut song No More Dream. Kim Ji-hun also recalled sharing a dorm with the BTS members in one of his videos. Not only this, he also called himself a ‘second parent’ and a good friend of the BTS members and recalled Suga paying his hospital bills when he fell ill.

In an interview with Vice Asia, Kim Ji-hun revealed that he went through a mental breakdown after being cut from the group talking about it he said, “There were a lot of other talented trainees, I didn’t think I was good enough. They held a meeting and told me I had to leave the group.”

He added, “I always worked hard, practiced every day and always stayed in the gym until dawn. So I wondered why I couldn’t get better, what’s wrong with me?” After being eliminated, the BTS members asked Kim, “Are you okay, Ji Hun?”

Not only this, he also revealed that her mother fainted after hearing the news of being cut right before the official debut. He said, “’m not the only one suffering. When I was still blaming myself for not being able to make it into the group, I suddenly received a phone call saying that my mother had fainted from shock when she heard that I was excluded from the group”

The other trainees who were excluded from the group, chose to move to another company to continue pursuing their dreams, however, Kim Ji-hun said he was too attached to BTS members so he always felt hurt that he couldn’t debut with them. He is now working at Korea Veterans Health Service and opened a YouTube channel.
