South actor and dancer Jaishree Rao has replaced actor Rucha Gujrati in the show ‘Bhabhi’ (Star Plus) as the lead protagonist Suhana. Incidentally, Rucha decided to quit after the generation leap was introduced as she didn’t want to play a grey-haired mother to a grown-up kid.

Considering that Jaishree has a glam image down South, wasn’t she uneasy about looking much older? “It’s my privilege to be playing the title role in a successful serial.

All the same, I have expressed my concerns to the production in advance. Fortunately, they have assured me that I will not be compelled to splash whitener on my hair or wear a grey wig, even though I’ll be playing a middle-aged character,” explains Jaishree, who has acted in a couple of Gujarati movies too.

Did she have any apprehensions stepping into Rucha’s shoes? “No, I am a practical person. I focus on the future and not in the past. Prior to me, three actors have played ‘Bhabhi’. But I’m least affected. I have already slipped into  Suhana’s skin with the support of my director and co-stars,” assures Jaishree who is also playing the title role of a modern Muslim girl in ‘Nargis’ (DD).

Incidentally, the actors who earlier played Bhabhi were Neha Mehta and Dolly Sohi. Neha was replaced after there were issues between the production house and her. Dolly quit after she got married to Avneet Dhanowa. and moved to Canada.
