In 2011, Benedict Cumberbatch was a part of the stage adaptation of Frankenstein directed by Danny Boyle. The actor along with Jonny Lee Miller performed the play at Royal National Theatre. Both the actors had won Laurence Olivier Awards for their performances at the Broadway show. Now as a part of National Theatre at Home stream, Frankenstein is all set to be shown live on their official Youtube page from April 30, 2020, to May 7, 2020.

Ahead of the streaming, Benedict had recorded a message for his fans and spoke about the live show being a fundraiser event. The play is adapted by Nick Dear based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein. Talking about it, Nick had said in a statement, "I think we’re doing something that hasn’t been done before [in previous productions], which is to tell the story, at least initially, from the creature’s point of view. We do start with the moment of creation but not told from the perspective of the scientists which is how it’s usually told; we tell it from the perspective of the experiment rather than the experimenter."

Nick had also said, "A great deal of what we’re trying to do in this show is to explore what it feels like to be that experiment. That was something Danny Boyle and I decided on years ago, which we felt would be a new approach to the story. We certainly don’t think it’s been done before, and we do it partly as a counter to almost all the movies, of which there are many, which usually deny the creature a voice."
