Lakhs of aspirants appear for the UPSC exam every year but only a handful are able to get through. Those who fail once, double their preparation, improve on their shortcomings and appear again. Some even spend six to seven years of their life solely studying to crack the UPSC Civil Services exam.

Many of the aspirants even lose hope and give up after one or two attempts and opt for an alternate career option. All of those who have cracked the exam and have become IAS, IPS or IFS officers always say that UPSC aspirants require consistent hard work and perseverance.

A perfect example of how consistency can get you where you need to be is IFS officer Pawan Gupta. IFS Pawan Gupta cracked the UPSC exam in 2022 with AIR 90.

Hailing from a humble business family from Agra, Pawan Gupta did a BTech in mechanical engineering. He pursued his graduation from NIT Durgapur.  It was during his days in college that he was pulled towards civil services but for financial purposes, he completed his engineering and then joined a car manufacturing firm.

Unable to shake the desire to crack UPSC, Gupta appeared for the civil services exam in 2015 while at working but could not clear the preliminary exam itself. Next year, he took the UPSC exam again and failed again.

He still did not give up and appeared again in 2017 but failed again. In 2018, he appeared for the exam again and this time, he cracked the Civil Services preliminary exam as well as the Indian Forest Services (IFS) preliminary exam.

He then decided to quit his job and appear for the Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam and cracked the exam with AIR 17. He took the job and started working at the post of Assistant work manager for Indian Railway in Punjab's Kapurthala.

In 2020, he appeared for the civil services and IFS exam again and reached the interview round but could not get through yet again.

After so many failed attempts, any person would lose their confidence and would give up but IFS officer Pawan Gupta did not give up on his dreams and appeared again in 2021 to crack the IFS exam and became an Indian Forest Services Officer with AIR 90.
